MBA Careers
ESMT’S MBA program is designed to develop future leaders for the next step of their careers. Throughout the MBA program, you work individually with coaches, mentors, and advisors who can give you professional feedback and advice on how to achieve your goals and transition into your next career opportunity.
A series of career development workshops and personal coaching are integrated into the MBA course schedule, along with company visits throughout Germany and on-campus recruiting events. ESMT’s Career Services team plays an active role in supporting, advising, and guiding students as they consider their futures after their MBA.
How Career Services helps you
-
Career support and guidance
-
Career coaching
ESMT is one of only a few schools that offer personalized one-on-one career coaching from certified professionals. MBA candidates meet with their coach at various fixed points during the program. Coaches use this time to discuss personal life decisions that students make during their MBA, including:
- Assessing career goals and designing a career development plan
- Discussing each student’s employment strategy
ESMT MBA students meet with the same career coach throughout the year, which allows for continual constructive feedback and development. This approach strengthens each MBA student and challenges him or her to choose the right career direction.
-
ESMT Career Fair and Interview Day
Early and later in the MBA program students can take part in two large on campus events.
- The first one is the annual career fair at ESMT campus with around 40 participating companies. It takes place on 29 January 2021 and will be virtual. This career fair is open for all ESMT students and alumni.
- The interview day later in the year takes place in the fall and is exclusively designed for MBA students. Participating companies conduct first round job interviews, or orientating career conversations with MBA candidates in a private setting.
-
Consulting project
MBA students are required to run a meaningful consulting project for a client, in teams of 4 to 6 students. This happens in fall. Teams have the option to acquire projects themselves, or wait what career services offers from the network. ESMT Career Services has an active role in developing the consulting projects. Projects come from many corporate, startup, and non-profit sources, representing diverse industries.
The consulting project is a company’s opportunity to interact with a team of MBA students on an assignment. The project results are valuable to the company – many organizational suggestions have been implemented by the client company after the project’s conclusion. In the past, up to 20% of the MBA class has been in employment negotiations with the client company during or after the project. For more information about offering a consulting project to this year’s MBA class, contact Marcel Kalis.
-
Company visits and presentations
During the year, ESMT MBA students have opportunities to interact with companies from a wide number of industries. Many corporate guests participate in class to discuss leading cases with professors, as well as dedicated information sessions about their companies.
Career Services organizes two career treks throughout Germany during the year. Students are able to visit company offices and ask questions about the industry or specific company culture. Recent company visits include: Allianz, Amazon, BMW, DeliveryHero, Earlybird, Google, HelloFresh, HERE, McKinsey, Microsoft, SAP, Signavio, Wayfair, Zalando, and many more.
-
Additional networking opportunities
Networking is paramount to landing the position of your choice. ESMT's interdisciplinary environment offers endless opportunities to meet and get to know alumni, recruiters, industry specialists, and guest speakers in Master Classes, open lectures, and student club activities. For the ambitious networking student, multiple chances to make connections at events and meetups exist off-campus as well.
